Nairobi, Kenya – In response to a significant increase in visitor numbers, the Kenyan government has announced new measures aimed at improving access and enhancing the visitor experience at Nairobi National Park.
Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Hon. Rebecca Miano, revealed that the surge in tourism is a reflection of Kenya’s rising status as a global travel destination, driven by successful marketing efforts and major international events in Nairobi.
“We deeply value every visitor who explores Nairobi National Park,” Miano stated. “We understand that extended waiting times at entry gates may have impacted your experience, and we are committed to making visits smoother and more enjoyable.”
To address these challenges, the Ministry has rolled out several key enhancements:
- Express Lanes: Visitors who purchase prepaid tickets will now have access to dedicated express lanes at entry points, significantly reducing wait times.
- New Gate Openings: The East Gate (off Mombasa Road) and Mbagathi Gate (off Magadi Road, opposite Multimedia University) are now fully operational, offering alternative access points to ease congestion.
- Future Entry Points: Plans are underway to introduce a Southern Bypass gate, further expanding accessibility.
Notably, over 60% of visitors on Sundays now use the prepaid ticketing system—a development officials say has made the park experience faster and more convenient.
The Ministry is encouraging all park-goers to embrace the digital experience by using the eCitizen platform at kws.ecitizen.go.ke to purchase tickets in advance.
“These enhancements are part of our mission to offer a world-class tourism experience while preserving our unique wildlife,” Miano emphasized. “Every visit should not just be a trip, but an unforgettable adventure.”
She concluded by thanking visitors for their patience and support: “We can’t wait to welcome you back to Nairobi National Park, where your journey into Kenya’s natural beauty begins.”
