The Ministry of Health has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening health systems and accelerating the rollout of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) through continued collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO).

Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale today hosted a high-level WHO delegation led by outgoing Country Director Dr. Abdourahmane Diallo to review Kenya’s top health priorities and progress.

Among the key areas discussed was the enhancement of disease surveillance and preparedness, with Kenya now achieving 56% capacity. The meeting also highlighted the upcoming launch of Kenya’s new national ambulance system in September 2025, supported by WHO with eight fully equipped ambulances and an upgraded national call centre.

The delegation received updates on the Africa Regional Emergency Hub based at the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH), which will serve as a Centre of Excellence for emergency response.

Additionally, a newly established genomic sequencing laboratory at KEMRI was showcased as a major step forward in boosting pathogen detection and epidemic monitoring.

CS Duale praised WHO’s technical and logistical support, noting that the reforms underway are aimed at ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare for all Kenyans. “Our partnership with WHO continues to guide evidence-based policies and investments that are critical to the success of UHC,” he said.
