Twiga Foods, a Kenyan firm, has been named one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential Companies in the World.
The company is included in the 2022 Times 100 Most Influential Companies list, which was released on Thursday, March 30th, because of how it is disrupting Kenya’s food supply chain, which, as it is currently constituted, results in high commodity prices.
According to the statement, Twiga Foods connects fresh food producers with shops via an online platform called Soko Yetu which allows customers to shop and have their orders delivered to their doorsteps within 24 hours.
“We are offering informal retailers in Africa what global retail chains have established in more developed markets, efficient, digitized, and integrated supply chains. Since informal retailers do not have the scale and capital to do this on their own, we are building it and becoming their back office,” said Twiga’s Founder Peter Njonjo.
The company has over 130,000 retailers, who are served by a fleet that travels a total of 12,000 kilometers per day and handles over 1.2 million kilograms of various items every day.
Twiga is proud to be the first East African firm to be named to the Times Top 100 Most Influential Companies 2022 list.
“We are deeply honored and remain committed to tackling the challenges of food security by using technology to deliver better quality and lower-cost food,” read part of the statement.
