Kenyan IT Guru to receive special award by German Chancellor Angela Merkel

Kenyans Juliana Rotich, Co-founder of Ushahidi; an open-source platform, will be awarded the German Africa Award by the German Chancellor Angela Merkel in a ceremony in Berlin.

Juliana is responsible for the digital growth in Africa as her innovations bring development to the continent and are globally sought after.


Ushahidi , a platform that was created after the 2007 General Elections, is a platform that assists users to upload events so that they can be located chronologically and geographically on a map, should there be any disaster.


The platform also allows people to upload everything that is happening around them and all this information is available and accessible on an online map.


The event will be graced by more than 300 guests.
