A Kenyan man working at a care facility for the elderly in Perth, Australia, has been sentenced to two years in prison after reportedly confessing to coercing an elderly resident in his 80s who suffers from dementia to participate in sexual activity.
During the court hearing, it was revealed that James Ng’ang’a Irungu, 30, who had been raised in Kenya in a strict Christian background had kept his homosexuality hidden, the Kenyan Diaspora Media website reported.
James Ng’ang’a is said to have admitted to three charges of indecently interacting with a vulnerable individual.
The victim is said to have suffered from both dementia and Parkinson’s disease.
The court was informed that Irungu arrived in Australia from Kenya in 2023 and had been pursuing studies at a local university.
The judge issued sentences of eight months, twelve months, and sixteen months for the three charges, with the sentences for the first and third counts to be served consecutively, resulting in a total effective sentence of twenty-four months.
Even though Judge Sefton granted Irungu parole, he mentioned that his visa could be revoked and he might be sent back to Kenya.
