Hip hop icon Nonini has marked his birthday with a gift unlike any other. A brand new track recorded alongside his teenage son.
The rapper, who turned a year older on October 2, unveiled Jiamini, the latest single from his fifth studio album KTRL.
But this release carries extra weight. It is the first time in his 25 year career that Nonini has shared the spotlight with his 13 year old son Jay, performing under the stage name Good Vibes.
The song was shot in Atlanta and according to Nonini it represents a powerful moment of personal reflection and artistic growth. Some of the clips showing how he navigated his son’s time in hospital, and their bond thereafter
“Rapping is my therapy,” he said. “When I pour out the highs and lows of life, it heals me. And when fans connect with those stories it becomes their therapy too.”
The collaboration sees father and son rap side by side. Blending personal storytelling with generational pride. Nonini called it a 360 degree full circle moment. Bridging his journey as a trailblazer in Kenyan music with his role as a parent.
