The Daystar University speedster received thunderous applause every time he touched the ball, signaling a swift rise in popularity among Indian rugby fans.

Meanwhile, Kabras Sugar’s Kevin Wekesa delivered a commanding performance for Hyderabad Heroes, scoring the final try in their 24-14 win over Kalinga Black Tigers. Wekesa’s physical presence and tactical awareness played a crucial role in securing the victory for his side.

The duo’s success has quickly made them the poster boys of the new league, earning praise from local fans and commentators who have dubbed them the “Kenyan sensations.”

India’s Rugby Premier League, now in its first season, aims to popularize the sport in the cricket-dominated nation, offering a platform to inspire young athletes to consider professional careers in rugby. The presence and impact of top international players like Odongo and Wekesa are seen as vital to that mission.

Odongo’s Delhi Reds will next face the Chennai Bulls, while Wekesa’s Hyderabad Heroes take on the Bengaluru Bravehearts on Tuesday, June 17. Enthusiasm continues to build as Indian fans embrace the fast-paced action and international flair brought by Kenyan talent.
