Kenyan Student Studying Medicine In Uganda Found Dead In Hostel Room

    Police in Bushenyi District, western Uganda, have begun investigations into the bizarre death of a Kenyan studying at Kampala International University (KIU).

    The deceased, Isaac Otieno Ochola aged 33, was reportedly studying at KIU western campus in Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality.

    Marcial Tumusiime, Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, stated that the deceased’s body was retrieved from his Hannington hostel after neighbours complained of a foul smell emanating from his room.

    “They alerted the private security guard at this hostel and he informed the police. Our officers visited the scene, recorded statements from neighbours and then conveyed the body…” the police boss added.

    His body was moved to KIU Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary pending postmortem.

    The late Ochola was reportedly pursuing a Master’s degree course in International Medicine in Uganda.

    One of his neighbours identified as Alex Tumusiime disclosed that police recovered an assortment of medicines in the deceased’s room.

    “When we broke into this room together with the police, we found different kinds of medicines like pethidine hydrochloride injections, Clonazepam and syringes were placed on a table near the bed, the decomposing body was well-dressed,” he was quoted as saying.

    The deceased student was reportedly suffering from mental disorders and was on treatment.
