Kenyan Woman Becomes Youngest Oxford Professor

Patricia Kingori, a Kenyan woman, has broken the glass ceiling by becoming one of Oxford University’s youngest full professors in the university’s 925-year history.

Kingori is also the United Kingdom’s youngest black professor at Oxford or Cambridge universities. “To have my body of work recognized in this way is a huge honour,” the professor added, “and I am grateful to many people who have inspired and supported me so far.”

Kingori is a British African sociologist who works at the Ethox Centre and the Wellcome Centre for Ethics and Humanities in London, UK.

The Ethox Centre and the Wellcome Centre for Ethics and Humanities is a research centre dedicated to enhancing ethical standards in healthcare and medical research.

“Patricia has pushed many mountains and cracked many glass ceilings to attain this historic achievement,” said Principal Baroness Jan Royall of Somerville, who moved a vote of confidence in her favor.

“She is a woman of firsts, a trailblazer, in the genuine Somerville tradition. I have no doubt that others will follow where she leads.”

The Senior Research Fellow has a long list of accomplishments and accolades, including the prize for historic distinction, which recognizes the quality and global significance of her research in academia and beyond.

Somerville noted that she is presently the recipient of the coveted Wellcome Senior Investigator award and leads an interdisciplinary team of academics researching worldwide challenges around Fakes, Fabrications, and Falsehoods in global health.
