A Kenyan woman was nabbed at Tan Son Nhat airport in Vietnam with 2.3 kilograms of cocaine after evading officials at three different airports, including JKIA.
The 35-year-old woman had flown from Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to Ethiopia’s Bole International Airport.
She had managed to smuggle and avoid airport security all along.
She flew from Ethiopia to Hamad International Airport in Qatar before landing at Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam.
The arrest was made after officers from the Ministry of Public Security, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department, border guards, and customs officials examined the passenger’s bags.
According to police, the woman’s bag had been modified to have a second bottom where she jammed the cocaine in the hopes that the authorities wouldn’t catch her.
Following a thorough search, authorities in Ho Chi Minh City recovered 2.3 kg of cocaine with an estimated street value of Ksh.349 million.
How the woman managed to maneuver through the three screenings at the three airports without the authorities noticing peculiar signs inside her suitcase still remains to be a mystery.
