Kenyans in China to travel back on May 1, at their own cost

Kenyans in China who wish to come back home will do so but at their own cost. According to Ambassador Sarah Serem the Kenyans have until May 1 to submit their names and details to the Kenyan Embassy for facilitation.

The Kenyans will pay 80,000 for the flight organized by the ministry of Foreign affairs and they must agree to be placed under compulsory quarantine for a period of between 14 to 28 days on arrival in Nairobi.

The evacuees must also be a Kenyan passport holder and abide by the Chinese exit laws.

While insisting that the facilitation was not an evacuation Serem said Kenyans willing to travel back would be charged Ksh 80,468 for the one way trip from Guangzhou to Nairobi.

“This is not an evacuation. The government of Kenya is only facilitating those who are willing to meet the cost of the ticket,” she said.

“They must personally book and pay fort on the platform provided by Kenya Airways.” Serem said.

The facilitations comes amid complains of mistreatment from Kenyans living in China by the Chinese government.

However, the Kenyan ministry has attributed the complains as part of policy change to combat the spread of Coronavirus in China.
