Kenya’s Casual Welcome To Olympic Champions Raises Eyebrows

Kenyans were left chatting on Tuesday after it was widely reported that Uganda’s Olympic team had been rewarded with high-end cars by Yoweri Museveni’s government.

They were met at the airport and chauffeured around the city in luxurious SUVs before it was widely assumed that the vehicles were government gifts.

The unusual move sparked debate on social media, with some Kenyans claiming that Museveni’s administration values their champions more than President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government did for Team Kenya.

Kenya’s government has promised to form a team.

Kenya’s government has also committed to doing something significant for Team Kenya.

Officials from the Ministry of Sports, Culture, and Heritage met runner Eliud Kipchoge at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Friday night and stated they had gone to the airport ‘casually’ but were planning something spectacular for them.

“We’ve come to accept our champions, and we’ve been doing so since they began returning, but because to COVID-19, we’ve had to do it this way, but we’re going to call them back for a large event and party to commemorate them; we’re really proud of them,” stated one of the Sports officials in this video.
