Kenya’s Faith Chepchirchir Kiprotich provisionally suspended for doping violation

Fast-rising road racing ace Faith Chepchirchir Kiprotich has been provisionally suspended for the Presence/Use of a Prohibited Substance (Norandrosterone).

Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) published her Notice of Allegation, issued on Monday 23 December, on Tuesday 7 January with the 23-year-old becoming the first Kenyan to get the 2025 list of doping allegations going.

AIU has given few details on the matter as the athlete has, per regulations, a timeline to explain the Adverse Analytical Finding.

After the AIU has notified an athlete of the findings, they are also informed of their rights, inter alia, to request the B Sample analysis, copies of the laboratory documentation supporting the finding, and admission of the Anti-Doping Rule Violations.

Traces of 19-norandrosterone may be naturally present in human urine. An experiment conducted on athletes showed that after a prolonged intense effort, the 19-norandrosterone concentration can be increased by a factor varying between 2 and 4. However, another study failed to replicate the result.

Concentration also increases in the urine of female athletes during menstruation.

The consumption of edible parts of a non-castrated pig, containing 19-nortestosterone, has been shown to result in the excretion of 19-norandrosterone in the following hours, so athletes should prudently avoid meals composed of pig offal in the hours preceding doping tests.

Consumption of boar meat, liver, kidneys, and heart also increased 19-norandrosterone output.
