Kenya’s track stars Faith Kipyegon, Beatrice Chebet, and Emmanuel Wanyonyi have been nominated for the 2025 World Athletics Awards, recognizing the season’s most outstanding athletes.
Chebet earned her place after claiming double gold in the 5000m and 10,000m at the Tokyo World Championships, while Kipyegon made history by securing her fourth world 1500m title and a silver medal in the 5000m.
The Kenyan duo will battle against American sprint sensations Melissa Jefferson-Wooden (triple gold in 100m, 200m, and 4x100m) and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone (400m and 4x400m champion), alongside Dutch star Femke Bol, the 400m hurdles World and Diamond League champion.
In the men’s category, Emmanuel Wanyonyi headlines Kenya’s charge after capturing the 800m world title and Diamond League crown.
His competitors include U.S. sprinter Noah Lyles, 400m hurdler Rai Benjamin, 110m hurdles champ Cordell Tinch, and France’s Jimmy Gressier, who made history with gold in the 10,000m and bronze in the 5000m.
Voting for the Track Athlete of the Year is now open on World Athletics’ social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and X) until October 19, with field and out-of-stadium nominees set to follow later this month.
