Kenya’s Harry “Kappa” delivered an impressive performance at the inaugural SportsBiz Africa (SBA) Esports Cup in Kigali, finishing fourth and pocketing a $500 prize.

The competition, staged on September 7, brought together some of Africa’s top EA FC 25 players on PlayStation 5. South Africa’s Zaid April emerged champion after defeating continental number one, Xmozaa, in a tightly contested final. Uganda’s Aksam claimed third place, while Kappa rounded out the top four in a strong showing for East Africa.

Kappa’s success earned praise from Kenyan fans and esports enthusiasts, who celebrated his achievement as proof that local talent can shine on the continental stage. His finish also underscores Kenya’s growing presence in Africa’s fast-expanding esports industry.

The SBA Esports Cup was organized as part of the SportsBiz Africa Forum, which seeks to position esports as a key sector in the region’s sports economy. Organizers say the event marks the beginning of efforts to establish a structured African esports circuit to nurture and showcase talent.
