Kenya’s Sabastian Sawe wins Berlin Marathon in 2:02:16

Kenya’s Sabastian Sawe stormed to victory at the 2025 Berlin Marathon, clocking 2:02:16 — the ninth-fastest time in history. The win extends his flawless marathon record this year, after triumphs in London and Valencia.

Sawe broke clear in the final stages on the fast Berlin course, finishing comfortably ahead of the field. His victory underlines Kenya’s continued dominance in global distance running, coming just hours before Rosemary Wanjiru’s win in the women’s race.

The 29-year-old has quickly established himself among the world’s elite, with a 2:02:05 performance in Valencia 2024 and a London win in 2025. He also holds a 58:05 half marathon mark and set a one-hour run best of 21,250m at the Memorial Van Damme.
