The Athletics Integrity Unit has provisionally suspended Kenyan long-distance runner Sheila Chelangat after she tested positive for the banned substance Erythropoietin.
The drug is commonly used by athletes to enhance stamina and performance by increasing red blood cell count.
Chelangat, a two-time national cross country champion, had recently returned to form following injuries and a dip in performance.
She made a strong comeback earlier this year with a second-place finish at the Hong Kong Half Marathon in January, clocking 1:08:06, and followed it up with another second-place performance at the Istanbul Half Marathon on April 27 with a time of 1:06:13.
Her suspension marks yet another blow for Kenyan athletics, coming shortly after the provisional suspension of former world half marathon record holder Kibiwott Kandie for evading or failing to submit to an anti-doping test.
