Police are investigating an incident in which a patient jumped to his death from his ward at the Kenyatta National Hospital.

The patient jumped from the seventh floor of the hospital and landed on the ground floor dying.

He had been admitted there on April 28 over pneumonia related complications.

It is not clear what motivated the move but police are investigating the incident.

It is not the first such incident to happen at the facility amid calls for more measures to address the trend.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), such cases of suicide are caused by joblessness, the breakdown of relationships or the death of a loved one, academic failures or pressures, legal difficulties, financial difficulties, bullying, previous suicide attempts, a family history of suicide, alcoholism and substance abuse, depression, and bipolar disorder.

WHO calls suicide as a serious global public health issue, among the top 20 leading causes of death worldwide.
