The High Court has handed Kenyatta University (KU) a stinging final warning: comply with orders to release Bachelor of Music student Owuor E. Mboya’s withheld results within 30 days or face contempt charges against top officials.
Justice Lawrence Mugambi expressed outrage at KU’s four-year defiance, which has blocked Mboya from graduating since 2021 over two missing units—Guitar Skills and Theory of Aural Skills.
Despite a 2022 ruling ordering KU to either post the marks or allow retakes, the university has repeatedly ignored the court. Thursday’s contempt hearing saw KU’s lawyer beg for yet another extension—a request Mboya’s counsel branded “cruel and oppressive.”
“Enough is enough,” the judge ruled, giving KU until December 6, 2025, to fully implement the judgment. Failure will trigger personal sanctions against vice-chancellors and registrars.
Mboya’s lawyer hailed the decision: “Our client has lost jobs, opportunities, and years of his life. Today, justice finally roared.”
