A fire broke out in a village in Kericho County, killing three children.
Preliminary investigations prove that the children were between the ages of four and ten and were burned beyond recognition after a house they were locked in caught fire under mysterious circumstances on Friday evening.
The three children, including a crippled 10-year-old, were locked inside by one of their brothers who went to a neighbour’s house to play with his pals in Moburo village, Kapsogut, Kericho County.
Police said the fire reduced the family’s main house, which was built of timber and iron sheets, to ashes.
They alleged that the children’s parents, who at the time of the incident were not at home.
They had left a phone to charge and it might have exploded and started the fire, police said.
According to the villagers, some of the neighbours noticed a huge smoke billowing from the homestead and when they rushed to check, they discovered that the house had been completely engulfed by the inferno.
Attempts to put out the fire were futile as the embers were fanned by dry timber used in the construction of the house and windy conditions in the area.
Investigations have since been launched to establish the exact cause of the inferno, police said.
