Kericho Governor Erick Mutai has been impeached by the Members of the County Assembly (MCAs).
In a voting exercise that was conducted on Wednesday, October 2, 31 ward representatives voted in favour of the impeachment motion.
16 MCAs boycotted the session and the voting exercise.
“I declare that the motion is passed and the governor, Dr Erick Mutai stands impeached by the County Assembly,” the speaker announced after the voting exercise.
Mutai was accused of violating the constitution, abuse of office and misuse of public resources among others.
Meanwhile, the impeachment of the governor is set to be challenged given that a court order had been issued by the high court stopping the exercise from being undertaken.
Following the passing of the vote taken by the MCAs, the impeachment motion is set to move to the Senate as prescribed in the law.
