The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has arraigned a man accused of killing his 100-year-old mother in Kericho County.
Julius Cheruiyot Bett is facing a murder charge under Sections 203 and 204 of the Penal Code.
The prosecution alleges that he caused the death of his mother, Grace Chelangat, on March 7, 2026, at Kiptere Location in Sigowet Sub-County.
According to the prosecution, led by David Fedha, the accused is said to have run over the elderly woman using a motor vehicle, leading to her death.
Investigators believe the incident was linked to a dispute over family property, with claims that the suspect had been persistently demanding inheritance.
Bett denied the charge when he appeared before Justice Joseph Sergon.
The court declined to grant him bail after the prosecution successfully opposed his release, citing undisclosed grounds.
The case is scheduled for mention on May 12, 2026, for pre-trial directions.
