Eldoret police are investigating a homicide after a taxi driver who went missing on Saturday was found murdered and his body dumped in a grass field in Kericho county’s Chepsonoi area.
According to Ainabkoi sub-County deputy Police Commander Alois Muthoka, they are looking into how the deceased, Patrick Muiruri, died, and that they will not spare anyone found culpable.
“We have received information that the taxi operator who had gone missing namely Patrick Muiruri Ndungu his body has been found within Kericho at a place called Chepsonoi dumped in coffee plantations,” said Muthoka while speaking to the press.
Muthoka also stated that they will continue to hold two people who were previously apprehended by police officers in order to assist the police in further investigations.
“We had arrested two people and took them to court where they were released on bond. We shall arrest them because it has been determined that their crime is murder/robbery and we present them in court again,” he said.
The wife of the taxi driver Grace Muiruri said her husband had gone missing and efforts to trace him were futile because his phone went unanswered and he had not expressed any fears for his life.
“He had been doing this job since 2008 and he was committed to his job so I don’t know how they murdered him. I want justice to be served,” she said.
The taxi drivers in Eldoret and the family of the deceased had earlier protested outside the law courts after two suspects who had been arrested were released on bond.
