Keroche Breweries: Tabitha Karanja Off The Hook Over Ksh 1.1B Tax Evasion

Keroche Breweries, situated in Naivasha, has decided to settle the Sh1.1 billion tax evasion suit out of court with KRA.

According to the company’s outgoing CEO, Tabitha Karanja, they were eager to put an end to the politically motivated litigation.

She described the conversations as “extremely fruitful,” with the tax collector deciding to remove the matter from the courts in favor of alternative dispute settlement.

“I am pleased to inform you that the KRA has agreed to withdraw this tax case, and we are working on an out-of-court settlement because this was a politically motivated case,” she added.

Speaking in Naivasha, the Nakuru senator urged care and responsibility in the ongoing campaign against illegal brew led by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

While she welcomed the fight, she warned that if it was handled improperly, it may harm the licensed brewers, who provide more than Sh250 billion to the government each year.

In recent months, the DP has launched an offensive against the brews, mostly in Central Kenya.

Karanja stated that the second-generation brew has harmed hundreds of young people across the country. She therefore described the crackdown as appropriate.
