President William Ruto avoided some areas in his Mt Kenya tour, ostensibly out of perception that the crowds could turn hostile.
In his five-day Mt Kenya tour, the President spent his time at Sagana State Lodge that is meters away from Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Wamunyoro home.
But despite spending the nights at the State Lodge, Ruto made no stop over rally at any area within Mathira constituency.
He however hosted women leaders from Nyeri for a breakfast meeting at the state lodge.
Despite the local MP Eric Wamumbi being his ardent supporter, the president skipped the area in entirety.
The President toured Kieni and Othaya constituencies where most MPs including Wamumbi did not address the crowd.
In Laikipia West, the President ignored a scheduled visit to the County Aggregation and Industrial Park, Rumururti.
In Nanyuki, the president trip was limited to one kilometers and did not even visit the town’s trading centre.
In Kirinyaga, the President did not Visit Gichungu and Kirinyaga Central.
Gichugu is the home of People’s Liberation Party Leader Martha Karua.
In Embu, he did not tour Manyatta constituency which is the home of Gitonga Mukunji, an ardent supporter of former DP Gachagua.
Pundits argue that the areas were ignored deliberately in apparent move to save the face of some area MPs and the president from hostile reception.
It came after Kikuyu MP and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah was heckled in Tharaka Nithi by a crowd that denied him a chance to address them.
The MP was accorded similar treatment in Lari, Kiambu County.
Also heckled is Kiambu Woman Rep Anne Wamuratha who was treated to a hostile reception in Githunguri, Kiambu.
