KFS Rallies Stakeholders Ahead of Africa Champion of Trees Awards

By Michelle Ndaga

The Kenya Forest Service (KFS), in collaboration with Blue Focus Africa, today hosted a Partners’ Breakfast in Nairobi to prepare for the Africa Champion of Trees (ACT) Awards slated for October 24, 2025.

Speaking at the event, Chief Conservator of Forests Alex Lemarkoko highlighted the Service’s progress under the 15 billion Tree Growing Campaign, noting increased partnerships and active involvement from both the public and private sectors.

He emphasized key initiatives such as the “Adopt a Kilometre” program, comprehensive forest fencing, and forest adoption projects in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs), which he said hold great promise in accelerating Kenya’s path toward achieving 30 percent tree cover.

Lemarkoko underscored the importance of resource mobilization and collective responsibility in restoring ecosystems. “Together, we are restoring Kenya’s promise for sustainable futures,” he said, urging stakeholders to sustain their commitment to conservation efforts.

The breakfast brought together key partners to strengthen collaboration ahead of the ACT Awards, which recognize individuals, companies, and creatives advancing environmental sustainability, social governance, and tree-growing initiatives across Africa.

According to ACT Awards CEO and Project Lead Wambui Karobia, the program has already attracted 250 entries across eight categories, with more submissions expected as awareness grows.

Organizers aim to use the awards to inspire millions of Kenyans and foster knowledge sharing among stakeholders committed to environmental stewardship.
