Boni Khalwale, a former Kakamega senator, has withdrawn his governorship run in favor of Senator Cleophas Malala.
Khalwale, who, like Malala, was running on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, announced the decision on Wednesday after consulting with Kenya Kwanza alliance leaders.
The announcement was made at Deputy President William Ruto’s Karen home in Nairobi.
On his side, DP Ruto expressed confidence in Kenya Kwanza’s dominance in Kakamega, claiming that his brigade would win the county’s votes in the August elections.
Kenya Kwanza co-principals Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula, as well as Garissa Township MP Aden Duale, were also in attendance.
