Kiambu Court Frees Sonko On Bond In Assault Case

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko

The Ex-Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has been freed on Sh300,000 bond with surety of a similar amount after denying several assault and terror charges before a Kiambu court. – By John Mutiso.

Kiambu Chief Magistrate Stella Atambo freed Sonko on the basis that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations has taken far too long to investigate the cases presented in court.

The former Nairobi Governor is not fully free since he has to appear at the Kahawa Law Courts over another case in which detectives want more time to hold him as they investigate Sonko’s alleged involvement in terror planning and financing.

During the court proceedings, Sonko was in a parademic company to check on his well being.

The former governor was earlier taken to court in an ambulance from the Nairobi Hospital where he was rushed in the morning over several medical conditions, according to his lawyer John Khaminwa.
