Kiambu Man Kills Cousin in Dispute over Chelsea vs Man United Match

A family in Githwamba Village, Kiambu County, is reeling in shock after a domestic quarrel over a football match turned fatal on Saturday night.

Police said James Mbugua allegedly stabbed his cousin, Stephen Njoroge, during an argument about the English Premier League clash between Manchester United and Chelsea. The altercation escalated, leading to the fatal stabbing.

Witnesses said the two had been watching the match together before tempers flared. Njoroge died at the scene.

Relatives described the 25-year-old victim as a hardworking and peaceful young man.

“This has broken our hearts. Stephen was jovial, kind, and loved peace. We never imagined such a tragedy in our family,” said one grieving family member.

Another relative claimed drug abuse may have played a role in the killing. “All this was caused by alcohol. Fighting with a knife is not normal. These drugs are destroying our youth,” the relative said.

Police have launched a manhunt for Mbugua, who fled after the incident. The authorities assured the public that investigations are underway to establish the circumstances of the killing.
