A section of Kiambu Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) allied to Governor Kimani Wamatangi have alleged they are being subjected to a campaign of fear and intimidation ahead of the assembly’s reopening in February 2026.Â
MCAs claim there is a coordinated effort to remove Speaker Charles Thiongo to clear the path for a looming impeachment motion against Wamatangi.
Speaker Thiongo filed a formal police report on February 3, 2026, alleging that unknown individuals in a black Ford Ranger invaded his private residence while he was away.
Nominated MCAs allege they have been threatened with disciplinary action by the UDA party based on false claims to force them into signing for the Governor’s removal.
More than 80 MCAs have pledged support for the Governor, accusing certain Members of Parliament (MPs) of holding “clandestine meetings” and offering bribes to influence the ouster.
Legislators are demanding the reinstatement of the Governor’s security detail and an end to what they describe as “state-sponsored harassment” following reports of shots being fired near the Governor’s residence.Â
The Kiambu County Assembly leadership has currently dismissed the existence of any formal impeachment motion, describing the reports as propaganda.
