A man has been charged with holding a minor hostage and defiling her for days.
Kennedy Kibiyi Havi was arraigned on Wednesday before Kibera senior principal magistrate Electina Rihani.
Havi is accused of eloping with the girl on the very day he was supposed to take her to school.
The court heard that the accused was instructed by his relative to take the girl to school, and on the way, he took the 13-year-old girl to his house.
Havi is said to have defiled her for several days. His neighbour witnessed the illegal act and reported him, resulting in his arrest.
He is also charged with indecently touching the girl’s private parts in violation of the Sexual Offences Act.
According to the charge sheet, he committed the crime on May 15, in the Kabiria area of Dagoretti Sub-county in Nairobi County.
The girl is said to have been rescued by a Good Samaritan from Sirisia in Bungoma County and brought to Nairobi to continue her education.
However, the case was halted as the court lacked a Bukusu language translator.
Havi denied the charges and was released on a Sh300,000 bond.
