A teenage girl who was abducted in Yatya, Baringo North Sub-County three days ago has been safely rescued and is being reunited with her family, authorities confirmed Saturday.
In a statement, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen hailed the successful operation as a testament to effective coordination between national, regional, and local security teams.
Special praise was given to Naudo Location Chief Mr. Japheth Pakka, local elders, National Police Reservists (NPR), and security officers who worked together to locate and rescue the girl.
“I appreciate the two communities in the area for their invaluable support and cooperation,” read part of the official update.
The rescue comes days after the harrowing incident, which also involved the girl’s brother—who managed to escape the kidnappers and raise the alarm.
The Interior Ministry has directed the National Police Service to pursue those responsible and ensure they face the full force of the law. Investigations are ongoing.
The County Commissioner has been instructed to convene a community peace meeting between residents of Baringo North and Tiaty Central, amid reports that longstanding local disputes may have contributed to the crime.
Murkomen added that arrangements for psychosocial support for the victims and their family. In addition, the government has offered to transfer the children to a boarding school outside their home sub-county, should the family consent, to ensure their safety and peace of mind as they continue their education.
