Kileleshwa MCA Alai Calls For Development Of An Integrated Transport Management System In Nairobi

Kileleshwa Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai on Wednesday gave notice to the Assembly that he wished to bring motion urging the Nairobi City County Government to develop an ambitious and comprehensive Integrated Transport Management System.

According to Alai, this initiative aims to revolutionize mobility within the city and its surrounding counties, significantly reducing congestion and paving the way for Nairobi to become a leading smart city on the African continent.

“The proposed system encompasses a wide range of transport modes, including underground metro, light rail, buses, motorbikes, cable cars, bicycles, pedestrian walkways and air transport solutions. It seeks to integrate these modes into a seamless network, enhancing the efficiency and accessibility of urban transportation for all residents and visitors,” he says.

Alai adds that the system will promote pedestrian-friendly spaces and ensure that every aspect of Nairobi’s urban mobility is geared towards creating a more livable, sustainable, and economically vibrant city.

The motion also outlines the importance of extending this integrated network beyond Nairobi, with potential future links to Machakos, Kiambu, Nakuru, Kajiado, Mombasa, and Kisumu since Nairobi doesn’t exist in isolation. This expansion would not only improve regional connectivity but also stimulate economic growth and development across the wider region.

Alai also emphasizes that the successful realization of this project requires collaboration between the county government, national government, private sector partners, and international stakeholders.

“It represents a bold step forward in addressing the current challenges faced by Nairobi’s transport system and sets a new standard for urban development and innovation,” he adds.

Through the motion, the Kileleshwa MCA calls on fellow assembly members and all stakeholders to support this transformative initiative.

“Together, we can usher in a new era of smart, sustainable mobility for Nairobi and serve as a model for cities across Africa and the world.”
