Kilifi County Goes After Politicians With Fraud Deals

Kilifi politicians led by the governor Gideon Maitha Mung’aro have warned those who in one way or the other were involved in any fraudulent dealings within the county to immediately surrender and give information or else they will go for them.

The leaders say Kilifi is left with huge debts amounting to about Sh4 billion a situation which has rendered services impossible.

Speaking during a tour in Kaloleni Mwanamwinga ward during the leaders second day of thanks giving to the electorates Kaloleni MP Paul Katana warned Mung’aro to first order for a clear audit of all debts within the county before making any payment.

Mr Katana said, the debts were too huge and speculated there might be shoddy and air contracts that would have been awarded during the former governor Amason Kingi’s regime which he urged for a thorough audit.

Together with Kilifi’s newly elected speaker Teddy Mwambire,the leader unanimously said they will not keep quiet but instead expose all the corrupted officials for purpose of public good.

Mr Mwambire said as the speaker of the county assembly he was going to cooperate with the governor to ensure the law is followed to the latter to ensured Kilifi is safe from fraudsters.

The speaker warned those who were involved in corruption and obtained county goods behind the door to immediately start taking those proceeds back to the government or else face full wrath of the law.

“We are perusing each and every document are are keen to see those projects said to be indebted are thoroughly audited before any payment is done.” Said Mwambire.

On his response,Kilifi governor Gideon Mung’aro reiterated the same acknowledging the amount of debt left behind by his predecessor Amason Kingi.

The Governor said there is a huge debt reflecting to projects said to have been done by contractors who are still unpaid.

The governor said however that nothing will be paid yet until all bills are clearly scrutinized and once found legit then shall be sought.

Mr Mung’aro said he was full aware that there are projects that their payments were raised but none was done on the ground which he affirmed once that is realized then the contractors will not receive any penny from the government.

He assured the people of Kilifi that he was going to restore sanity and service delivery to the electorates.

He said already he was working closely with Pwani university which was recently awarded the faculty of Teaching Medicine and said he has secured over 80 acres of land from the institution to put up The Kilifi Teaching Research and Referral Hospital.

The governor however warned medics who lazy around their daily jobs that they would face full force of the law citing already he was set to do a.major reshuffle at Malindi general hospital after he realized medics were arrogant and engaging into their private businesses instead.
