Reprieve As Kilifi Residents Get 39,000 Title Deeds

Mr Olaka urged the beneficiaries to make good use of them for their future lives.

The national government has moved to address the land issue in Kilifi county by issuing title deeds to residents of Mbalamweni in Kaloleni sub county.

The exercise was led by graced by Kilifi County Commissioner Kutswa Olaka and former Lands CAS Gideon Mung’aro and Kaloleni MP Paul Katana.

Mr Olaka said the titles issued were part of the 39,000 title deeds the government has processed and were launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta in Nairobi last week.

Mr Olaka urged the beneficiaries to make good use of them for their future lives.

Mr Mung’aro told the residents about the journey and intervention he put when he was at the lands docket to address the problem.

Mr Mung’aro is currently vying for the Kilifi gubernatorial seat in an ODM ticket.

“When President Uhuru Kenyatta appointment me in the lands docket, he had a single message to me, that I address to an end the land problem at the Coast. For the about three years I have been at that ministry we have managed to process hundreds of thousands of title deeds with Kilifi and the Coast in generally being the major  beneficiaries,” he said.

Mr Mung’aro said apart from the 39,000 titles that were issued by President Kenyatta last week which part of it were for the residents of Mbalamweni in Kaloleni, there are other title deeds that are being processed for the region.

“Apart from the schemes and adjudication we are working on, it is during my tenure that we purchased lands to resettle people. The government bought the Waitiki land, we bought five parcels of the Mazrui land, we bought the Mikanjuni land and the Kagaa lands. I did a lot for the people in that ministry,” he said.

Mr Olaka urged the community to make sure that the document benefit them and does not turn into lives of misery.

“This is a very important document and you must take care of it. However I urge the community not to kill the elders in quest for land ownership,” he said.

Some of the beneficiaries were upbeat that at least this step will transform their lives for the better.
