Kilifi Youth To Receive Grants From KYEOP

More than 500 youths from Ganze constituency in Kilifi County have benefited from the government sponsored Kenya Youth Employment and Opportunities Program (KYEOP). - By Ramadhan Kambi

The project undertaken by the national government has continued to transform lives for youths hence providing an opportunity for them to uplift their livelihoods after training and getting job.

Ganze MP Teddy Mwambire told Uzalendo News that his office had by last week held an induction of another 378 youngsters from across the constituency in cycle six of the KYEOP program.

The trainings which kicked off early this week are expected to run for six months.

“Under this programme youths get an opportunity to go for all technical courses that range  from hairdressing, carpentry and joinery, mechanics, welding and fabrication, tailoring and dressmaking fashion and design. Other courses includes, plumbing and pipe fitting, wiring, electrical installation, plant operation, shoe making, masonry,” the MP said during the interview.

Mr Mwambire called on youths not to shun away from such courses because they will be of great importance to them in their future lives. He said it was unfortunate that some youths in Ganze had been caught up in misleading information about the prudence of the courses, adding that at the end of it all, the youths must be able to get jobs or turn into self-employment through the skills they acquired.

“In a nutshell, the constituency has success stories from youths across the constituency who benefited from this program right from cycle one. I appeal to all young people across the constituency who qualify in this program to embrace such opportunities for our better future. Let’s refrain from relying on misleading statements from retrogressive individuals and embrace such unique programs from the National Government geared towards empowering our youths and the society at large,” he said.

In the first cycle of the programme, Ganze registered 64 youths, in the fourth cycle of the programme, it registered 130 youths, while in the fifth cycle of the project, registered 170 youths. In the sixth cycle of the project, it registered 220 youths.

“These numbers have kept low than expected because of ignorance from the targeted youths aged 18 to 29 years. They do not turn up for public barazas to get such information.

Equally some drop midway due to delayed stipends from the program, inability to stay away from young families whenever the courses are taken away from home,” said Ganze Constituency coordinator Ezra Koi. The same sentiments were shared by the Ganze constituency manager Emannuel Chai Bwenyenye.
