Killer Tharaka Nithi: Twelve Dead in Horrific Crash

A tragic accident on Saturday evening has claimed the lives of twelve individuals following a collision between a van and a pickup truck at Nithi Bridge along the Chuka-Meru Road.

The devastating incident, which occurred around 7:20 p.m., involved a van carrying passengers that resulted in the demise of all its occupants.

According to police reports, the van, whose driver reportedly failed to maintain a proper lane, collided head-on with a Toyota pickup truck.

The impact was catastrophic, leading to immediate fatalities for everyone aboard the van, including eight adult females, two adult males, and two teenagers.

The victims are said to have been travelling from a ceremony in Meru when the tragedy happened.

The driver of the pickup suffered a serious fracture to his right leg, while a passenger in his vehicle sustained head injuries and was rushed to Chuka Referral Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as harrowing, with debris scattered across the road and emergency responders working tirelessly to manage the aftermath.

Both the van and the pickup, extensively damaged in the crash, have been towed to Chogoria Police Station for a thorough inspection.

As investigations continue, police indicate that preliminary findings point to lane encroachment as the primary cause of the tragic accident.
