Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has unleashed a rare and fiery rebuttal against his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua, dismissing bribery allegations as baseless and accusing the former DP of dragging the Mount Kenya region into “backwards politics.”
Speaking during an economic empowerment event with SACCOs in Kabete, Kiambu County, Kindiki strongly defended his recent meeting with Kikuyu musicians, who Gachagua claims were paid Ksh50,000 each to visit the DP at his Karen residence.
“For you, when you were a leader, whom did you bribe or take your wealth to? The little that we give is not because we have excess wealth; it is out of good-heartedness,” Kindiki declared, visibly angry.
In a sharp tone uncharacteristic of the normally composed law professor, Kindiki lashed out:
“Please stop lecturing us; we are not your children. Do not make noise for me. Do not bring that kind of backwards politics here in Central.”
The statement followed Gachagua’s call to boycott musicians like Samidoh Muchoki, Ben Githae, and Karangu Muraya, accusing them of betraying the community by aligning with Kindiki.
Gachagua also urged entertainment venues to blacklist the artists unless they publicly apologise.
Kindiki dismissed the claims as petty and divisive, warning against a culture of coercion and silencing artists.
He pointed out that his past contributions to the country’s leadership—including representing President Ruto at the ICC—were not about showmanship, but service.
“Is there anyone who fought for this government more than me?” he asked, to loud applause from the Kabete crowd.
