Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki announced on Wednesday that all officers who have served in one police station for more than three years should be transferred immediately.
Kindiki told the Senate that the National Police Service (NPS) has been given a maximum of 60 days to facilitate the transfers and that officers who refuse to relocate will not be paid.
“The directive by the government is that any officer after the 60 days who continues to resist or for whatever reason does not move to a different station, the salary will be stopped. It is that serious,” the security minister said.
Prof Kindiki stated that the policy governing how long a police officer should serve at one station has been ignored for a long time. He also stated that the NPS was notified of the guidelines two weeks ago.
Meanwhile, for officers on special assignments, he stated that the provision of a year’s maximum service at a given duty station would be enforced.
“For those doing serious operations, normally we move them within one year because of the kinetic and demanding nature of the operations they are involved in,” Kindiki said.
The minister was responding to questions about national security issues from senators.
