King Charles’s Wealth Surges to £640 Million, Doubling Late Queen’s Fortune

King Charles III’s personal wealth has soared by £30 million over the past year, reaching a staggering £640 million, according to the latest Sunday Times Rich List. The increase elevates the 76-year-old monarch 20 places to joint 238th among the UK’s 350 richest individuals and families.

The King’s fortune now matches that of former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty, despite their £11 million dip in the past year. Charles’s wealth now far surpasses that of David and Victoria Beckham, who are valued at £500 million.

Much of the King’s wealth stems from a robust investment portfolio inherited from Queen Elizabeth II, whose personal fortune stood at £370 million in 2022. Key private assets include the royal estates of Sandringham in Norfolk and Balmoral in Aberdeenshire.

The Rich List evaluation only accounts for personal assets and excludes the Crown Estate, the Duchy of Lancaster, and the Crown Jewels—held in trust for the nation. It also omits the Duchy of Cornwall, which provided Charles with a private income of up to £23 million annually during his tenure as Prince of Wales and has since passed to Prince William.

The 37th edition of the Sunday Times Rich List also highlights a significant shift in UK wealth dynamics, recording the steepest drop in billionaires in its history. The number of billionaires has fallen from 165 to 156, largely attributed to Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ crackdown on non-domiciled tax status.
