Attempts by Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi’s Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) and his Machakos counterpart Alfred Mutua’s MCC parties to leave the Azimio Coalition were rejected by the Registrar of Political Parties Anne Nderitu.Â
In a letter to PAA, Nderitu stated that her office does not have the authority to degazette the party unless it follows the proper procedures.
“Azimio is already a registered coalition political party in terms of section 7(7) of the Political Parties Act (Registration), Regulations 2019,”
“The registrar has no mandate to degazette PAA as per your request save for where due process outlined in the coalition agreement has been followed.”
PAA had met all of the prerequisites and presented all of the required paperwork, according to the registrar, to demonstrate its commitment to the alliance.
Nderitu likewise denied to accept the request in response to MCC, citing similar reasons.
PAA has written to the registrar, requesting that it be removed from the list of parties that make up the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Alliance.
