Kipsang Wins UDA Ticket For Elgeyo Marakwet Amid Irregularities

Former Marakwet West MP William Kisang won the party ticket for the United Democratic Alliance in the primaries for the Elgeyo Marakwet senate election (UDA).

Kisang beat 20 other candidates in the hotly fought campaign, winning with 28,136 votes from UDA county returning officer Nicodemus Bore.

Timothy Kipchumba and Jonathan Tanui tied for second place with 26,766 votes each.
Hillary Cheboi Kibaset received 3,538 votes, while Jerotich Seii received 8,540 votes.

Despite party leader President William Ruto’s promises to host free and fair UDA primaries, the polls were replete with anomalies, according to Kipchumba.

He said that some polling sites turned voters away, allowing them to vote late on purpose, while others had inadequate ballots.
