A primary school teacher committed suicide in Kandongu village, Kirinyaga County.

According to investigations, the teacher who jumped into a well on Tuesday left a suicide note explaining why she committed suicide.

Mwea West Sub County police chief Wilson Koskei said that Ms Wangithi Karuria, 56, committed suicide due to massive debts owed to women’s groups and banks.

“In the suicide note, Ms. Karuria indicated that she was fed up with life. She revealed that she had a lot of debts which should be cleared by her two sons. She also directed her sons to share her property equally,” said Mr Koskei.

On Wednesday morning, students discovered the teacher’s body in the well.

Locals immediately reported the incident to Kiamaciri Police Station before officers pulled the body from the well.

The Wakaniu Primary School teacher was last seen with one of her sons on Tuesday evening, according to the residents, who described her as hardworking and humble.

Mr. Koskei stated that the teacher ate dinner with her son on Tuesday.

“The teacher waited until her son left and jumped into the well and drowned,” said Koskei.
