On Wednesday, angry Azimio la Umoja protesters in Kisumu disrupted a meeting presided over by Communications Authority (CA) Director General Ezra Chiloba at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga sports ground.
The meeting was supposed to be presided over by ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo, but he did not show up, forcing Chiloba to take over.
When the protestors stormed in, Chiloba had just finished speaking at a press conference and had already left.
The protestors then ran towards the tents and the main stage, causing panic among the remaining exhibitors and participants.
After realising Owalo was not present, the residents went straight to the catering tent, where they took the food, chased away the participants, ate everything and broke plates and cups in the tent.
As the rowdy youths shouted anti-Eliud Owalo slogans, service providers scrambled to ensure the safety of their equipment, including tents, chairs, and music systems.
DCC Kisumu Central Hussein Hussein, who had received a notice from the protestors, arrived at the venue with other security officials to ensure the safety of the participants.
Local leaders, including Deputy Governor Dr Mathew Owili and Kisumu Central MP Joshua Oron, had earlier led protestors in a march from Kondele to the state lodge.
Protesters carried twigs, sufurias, and anti-Kenya Kwanza administration placards as they marched.
The leaders vowed to continue protesting against President William Ruto’s government, adding that there will be a final rally in the county on Friday before the protests in Nairobi on Monday the 20th.
