Two people have been confirmed dead from cholera in Kisumu County.

CEC for health Gregory Ganda has said the two are among the eight people who had severe cases of cholera.

Ganda has noted that the highest number of cases of the outbreak have been reported in Nyalenda A followed by Nyalenda B which are in Kisumu East, then Kisumu Central.

He has said the county has activated emergency operation centers as one way of responding to cholera.

“A team of experts are meeting daily to review the number of cases, number of admissions and interventions which we are taking”, he said.

Some of the measures already put in place to curb cholera are distribution of free clean safe water to the residents of Nyalenda A.

Furthermore, public health officers will be doing inspections in eateries, social gathering where food and water will be inspected.

“We are discouraging people from eating outside, eating food in the streets which is not inspected and we do not know the quality”, added Ganda.

However, the CEC has urged people to observe hygiene by washing their hands with safe water, drinking boiled or treated safe water.

He has called upon those with diarrhea or vomiting to visit health facilities to get diagnosis early and start treatment as early as possible.
