Winam Law Courts in Kisumu sentenced a man to ten years in prison for gouging out his sister-in-law’s eye with pliers during a fight in the Nyalenda district earlier this year.
In a judgement dated March 11, 2023, Winam Law Courts Principal Magistrate Fatuma Rashid ruled Isaac Onditi, 43, guilty of the felony.
According to the magistrate’s verdict, the accused inflicted significant injuries to the victim, Janet Awino.
The convict was accused of assaulting the woman at her Nyalenda business kiosk with pliers.
The court relied on witness testimonies from eight witnesses, including the victim’s daughter, all who linked the suspect to the offense.
The court noted that the woman suffered serious injuries on her right eye and dismissed the defense by the accused that he was not guilty.
Onditi had urged the court to forgive him since he was a father to a young family that needed his presence and care.
However, the court ruled that the offense was serious and deserved a serious sentence.
