Kisumu Lawyer and Court Clerk Arrested for Alleged Bribery

A Kisumu-based lawyer, Clifford Gwada, and a court clerk, Zakayo Wambogo, have been arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) for allegedly soliciting a Ksh.500,000 bribe from a litigant.

According to EACC, Gwada and Wambogo claimed to be acting on behalf of Presiding Judge Lady Justice Aburili.

They allegedly told the litigant that the judge required the money as a bribe to deliver a favourable judgment in a case decided on May 17, 2024.

Lady Justice Aburili has cooperated with the EACC investigation and confirmed that she had no knowledge of the alleged bribe.

She reported that she learned about the money being withdrawn by Peter Warindu and Company Advocates, Gwada’s workplace, and handed it over to Wambogo for her.

The duo are being held at Railways Police station pending arraignment.
