Kitengela International School Sues KNEC Over Errors In 2023 KCPE Results

As the 8-4-4 Education System in Kenya came to an end in 2023 with the last cohort of KCPE receiving their KCPE results in November 23, the Kenya National Examination Council’s history appears to be taking a turn for the worse.

This comes after parents from Kitengela International School sued the National examination body challenging results of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) released by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) last week.

In the matter, the parents from Set Green Hill Academy Mixed Day and Boarding and Junior school in Kisii and Kitengela International School want the court to stop the selection of form one placement exercise which was slated to begin on November 27,2023.

In Court papers, the parents argue that their children are dissatisfied with the way their papers were marked saying that the results have caused their children mental stress.

According to the parents, if the placement exercise starts, then the 90 day review period will be unreasonable.

According to one of the parents “.she does not understand why there is a marked variance between the marks scores by students at the school inthe previous years and marks posted for the year 2023 in the same KCPE examinations as the said does not fall within a reasonable range,” reads court papers.

Several parents and students have expressed dissatisfaction in the results released by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu on November 23.

They have faulted KNEC for the irregularities.

The exam body had earlier admitted to irregularities in the process, saying it had received appeals over some errors in results obtained through the short code 40054 that was provided by the Ministry of Education.
