The family of Kevin Maseri, a 32-year-old father of four who was fatally shot during a bar altercation in Kitengela, has vowed to delay his burial until the DCI officer involved is arrested and prosecuted.Â
The incident occurred early Sunday, January 25, 2026, at the C&M Lounge and Accommodation, where a senior DCI officer allegedly shot Maseri and his cousin, Joseph Musondu, following a disagreement.Â
A post-mortem conducted on January 30 confirmed Maseri died from gunshot wounds fired at close range, which affected his vital organs including his liver and kidneys.
While three firearms—two belonging to police officers and one to a licensed civilian—have been surrendered for forensic examination, the main suspect remains free as of late January.
Represented by lawyer Daniel Kanchori, the family has urged DCI boss Mohammed Amin to ensure the officer is brought to court by Monday, February 2, citing fears of a potential cover-up.
The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and the Police Internal Affairs Unit are conducting an independent probe into the shooting.Â
The deceased’s cousin, Joseph Musondu, remains in critical condition at the Kajiado Referral Hospital.
