Kitui Signs MOU To Build Four New Police Stations

Kitui County Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Police Service today that would lead the construction of the first four police stations in Endau Malalani, Mutha, Nguni, and Ngomeni wards.

The decision to build police stations around the borders with Tana River and Garissa counties is an attempt to achieve long-term peace and security, citing historical attacks and recent widespread unrest that have resulted in fatalities along the unsecured porous frontiers.

Governor Dr Julius Malombe (EGH) stated during the signing of the MoU that the measure aims to increase the security of the great people of Kitui County.

He stated that the county and the National Police Service are working together to improve security within the county’s villages, locations, wards, sub-counties, and county borders.

“The disputes we see are primarily focused on water and pasture, immigrant populations, grazing in protected areas, charcoal manufacture, artisanal and small-scale mining, livestock theft, and poaching.” The Governor stated.

Furthermore, Governor Malombe stated that insecurity delays impede development agendas at all levels of government, adding that the two governments are keen on addressing conflict situations as intended in Article 189 of Kenya’s 2010 Constitution.

He praised Kitui County Assembly for allocating funds for the construction of four police stations, which President Dr. Ruto vowed to operationalize once completed at the Governor’s request during the Head of State’s recent visit to Kitui.

Among those who observed the signing of the MoU, led by the Governor, were County Commissioner Erastus Mbui, members of the County Security and Intelligence Committee, MCAs, CECMs, and County Chief Officers.
